• Since CTL response in natural HIV-1 infections is mostly against variable but immunodominant epitopes, lymphocytes from 12 vaccine(HIVconsv)-exposed subjects of the HIV-CORE 002 study were used to determine and define 14 less variable but typically subdominant, optimal novel epitopes.
• Epitope VPRRKAKI (VI8) is within peptide VVPRRKAKIIRDYGK (HC176). VI8 is an HLA-B*0801-restricted epitope which elicits a response.
