Notes

• To provide more information on CTL epitopes in CRF01_AE infection in south-east Asia, Gag overlapping peptides (OLP) eliciting CTL responses in an infected Thai population were used to predict 6 unique epitopes and 7 novel cross-clade epitope candidates.
• 81.8% of 137 subjects recognized at least one OLP; 44.9% of 98 OLPs were recognized by at least one subject. The second half of p24, HXB2 261-360, was the most highly targeted region while the first half of p17, HXB2 5-60, was the second most targeted region.
• Breadth and magnitude of CTL response correlated significantly with CD4+ T cell counts, but only breadth of response correlated inversely with viral load (VL).
• OLP 38 contains reported epitope GHQAAMQML that was previously identified as being from clades B and C and restricted by HLA-B*38. OLP 38 elicited response from 3/134 subjects.
