• Longitudinal studies of 7 newly HIV-infected HLA-B*51+ Chinese patients show that multiple effective T-cell responses (ETR) may benefit acute phase infection-control. 3/16 tested epitopes elicited response at seroconversion, 3- and 6-months post-seroconversion. Immunodominance of the 3 epitopes was LPPVVAKEI (LI9)> TAFTIPSI (TI8) > NANPDCKTI (NI9). Group 2 patients with at least 2 ETRs had significantly higher CD4+ cell counts 3-months post-seroconversion as well as significantly lower viral load than Group 1 patients with only 1 ETR.
• 1/7 B*51+ patients responded to epitope NI9 at serocoversion, increasing to 2/7 at 3- and 3/7 (42.8%) 6-months post-seroconversion. The rare form of NI9, NANPDCKSI was seen in patients, mutating to the common form, NANPDCKtI.
