Notes

• A transmission pair were studied to compare fitness of HIV isolates between the partners. Virus from both subjects were replication competent and transmissible. The female recipient of virus did not have known protective HLA but protective KIR alleles and was a controller with <100 copies virus/ml during acute infection. Suppressive capacity of her CTLs did not change, but there was a marked decrease in NK cell reponse with the onset of viremic breakthrough at 9 months.
• Nef (79-87) ML9, MTYKGALDL, was present in transmitting subject, VP1 and recipient pre- and post-loss of viremic control. No variant was detected. Presumed restricting allele was A*02.
