Notes

• Escape mutations alone do not account for virological outcome in early-infected, untreated, HLA-B*57+ HIV-1 patients. 5 patients were studied longitudinally up to a maximum of 36 months: 3 presented escape mutations that did not result in increased viremia and 2 patients who presented an increase in VL had not developed new escape or compensatory mutations.
• All 5 patients developed mutations in IW9, AISPRTLNAWV, viz. pISPRTLNAWV, AlSPRTLNAWV, plSPRTLNAWV and pISaRTLNAWV.
