Notes

• The study examined a case in which a HLA-B*27+ progressing patient transmitted the virus to a HLA-B*27+ non-progressing patient who was temporarily on HAART, but who has since controlled viremia for over 4 years.
• The progressing transmitter carried variant KkWIImGLNK. Neither patient had a putative compensatory gag mutation at S173. The viral controller (recipient) carried KK10 escape mutation KqWIImGLNK, which is normally associated with high viremia and low CD4+ count and provides an escape from HLA B*27-specific CTL, indicating that prolonged control of fully pathogenic HIV-1 is possible.
