• A placebo controlled trial was run in 36 HIV-1-uninfected adults, where either a DNA vaccine or recombinant modified vaccinia virus Ankara vaccine (rMVA-mBN32) was administered. Both vaccines encoded the same 21 CTL and 18 HTL epitopes but did not elicit strong CTL or helper responses as compared to vaccines containing entire open reading frames of HIV proteins.
• CTL response as γ-IFN and IL-2 production was detected in 3/25 subjects who were vaccinated. PBMCs from these responders were tested with specific peptides and only one subject had a positive response to the epitope Gag 271, MTNNPPIPV.
