Binley1997a J. M. Binley, P. J. Klasse, Y. Cao, I. Jones, M. Markowitz, D. D. Ho, and J. P. Moore. Differential Regulation of the Antibody Responses to Gag and Env Proteins of Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1. J. Virol., 71:2799-2809, 1997. Retention of anti-Env antibodies and loss of anti-Gag antibodies during progression was studied, and suggested to be the result of the loss of T-cell help and the ability of Env to stimulate B cells even with declining CD4 cells, because of Env's unique ability to bind to the CD4 molecule.
