1101: HIV-1 env clones resistant to cyanovirin (CV-N), a carbohydrate binding agent, showed amino acid changes that resulted in deglycosylation of high-mannose type residues in the C2-C4 region of gp120. Compared to their parental virus HIV-1 IIIB, these resistant viruses were 8-10 times more sensitive to 1101, indicating that deglycosylation in CV-N resistant viruses is likely to make the V3 loop more accessible to Abs.
