Inhibition of R5 HIV replication by monoclonal and polyclonal IgGs and IgAs in immature monocyte-derived dendritic cells (iMDDCs) was evaluated. It was shown that anti-HIV IgG was able to inhibit HIV-1 replication more efficiently in iMDDCs than in PBLs, while no such activity was observed for polyclonal IgA. The kinetics of IgG addition suggested that the inhibition occurred early in HIV infection. No induction of maturation was observed. Two mechanisms of HIV inhibition in iMDDCs by IgG are described: i) neutralization of HIV infectivity by Fab parts of IgG, and ii) inhibition of HIV infection via FcγRII or FcγRI expressed on target cells.
