Macaques were immunized with different combinations of Tat peptides. Serum from these animals was able to inhibit Tat-induced apoptosis, and Tat antibodies are associated with long term survival. Anti-Tat antibodies generated in infected macaques tended to be restricted to the peptide 44-61, while sera from infected humans could react with several different peptides.
