This is a list of best-defined HIV CTL/CD8+ epitopes, as described by C. Brander and colleagues. This selective list of HIV epitopes is sometimes referred to as the “A list”.

This list is updated periodically. Former versions of this list can be obtained from the Archive of Best-Defined CTL Epitopes. Articles describing all releases of A-list updates are available in Review Articles.

The protein, HXB2 location, host species and HLA restriction elements of the epitopes are provided. Identical entries are shown only once. The epitope sequence is a link to the database that will provide details of all epitopes containing that sequence.
